Living in reality

Have you ever considered life to be a reality show? Well it is not a show, just a reality. What we face every day of our lives is reality and for sure it’s not planning to change just to suite into our own preferences. You may be wondering what am talking about here, but let’s face it life always gives us what we deserve, we can whine and complain, raise arguments about fate but the reality is, that is what we deserved in the first place. Do you think God is always fair? Well you can answer that at your own time, but the fact that the word ´always´ appears in this question is a show of human change of mind. When things are going in the direction we want them to go then God is very fair but when things decide to make their own choices then God is somewhere in bed or he has blanked out on us.
Sometimes when I don’t get what I want, the first people that I always blame are the people around me and not me. Have you ever felt like your parents have failed you or the reason why your life is not what you want it to be is because you were not born a president’s son, or because God decided that you should be born an African, or because God gave you parents who barely saw the door of a primary school? Well I have been there lamenting and asking all the whys, why this? why that?, but the truth is the things I have and the ones coming my way are all determined by the choices that I make in life.
I remember when we were growing up and Mrs. Musyoki my primary teacher would ask me, “Edwin what would you like to be when you grow up?” and with a big smile I would shout “DOCTOR!” Then biology and chemistry became tough in high school and then the doctor thing had to be turned to a teacher since it seemed easy just standing there with a book and dictating the notes. By the end of the four years in high school I didn’t want to be anything brought about by books and sitting in class and that’s when I turned into the natural talents rather than books.
Life sometimes proves to be difficult simply because all the good things come at a price and I assure you not just a price but a big, big price yet some things can only be paid as long as we live and so we ought to be set to pay our dues if we want the sweet paradise on planet earth. I recall back when I used to think that those people we call rich just woke up one morning and they were driving their mighty sized cars, or Martin Luther king jn out of boredom decided to fight for the rights of the oppressed. There is something called passion and motivation, and then there is also working hard and smart. All these have to be nicely arranged in our minds for the paradise to appear. Nowadays Bill Gates earns millions in his sleep, not because his night angels manufacture money, but because there was a time he saw a vision of becoming a billionaire and made the reality show to be real.
Making things happen sometimes is tough and that’s why society and the Past become victims of our blames, but the realness is, hard work has to happen for all these to come true. God has the power to make anyone rich just by a blink of an eye and there you are swimming in millions, but he is not doing so because he has given us a brain of our own to make all these things happen. God made the universe in 6 days, not that he couldn’t do it in a micro-second, but he placed an order of things for us, so that we can realize that a progress means time interval and that means we need to rise from level to level, and that why even in God’s court of blessings the law applied is ‘from glory to glory´.
Everyone want the good things to come their way, but let’s first accept the place we are in then start asking the rest from God, Moses from the bible was asked to show what he had in his hand and that’s what God was intending to use, not what his brother Aaron had.  What do you have for God to use to make things bigger in your life? More to that God asked Moses to drop the stick on the ground and when he picked it, it had a different magnitude than just a stick. Sometimes we need to let go of the things in our hands and let God transform them and give them a new meaning. Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he shall make your paths straight.
Wake up let us journey on.
